Helambu trek is considered to be the easiest and short trek of Langtang Regions trekking. This place is nearby Kathmandu yet unexploited trekking destination. This trekking destination is popular among the local tourists, especially from Kathmandu. This place offers an eye-catching view of the Langtang range. It also offers the opportunity to witness the Hyolmo culture of the Sherpas living in this region. This region is embellished by beautiful rhododendron and oak forest, snow-capped Himalayas, and age-old Buddhist monasteries. The people residing in this region are Sherpas of Nepali origin. This trek begins from Sundarijal passing Shivapuri National park and continues to Chisapani, Kutumsang, Helambu, Sermathang then to Melamchi bazaar and finally to Kathmandu.

Trip Includes:

Trip Excludes:

  • Nepal arrival visa (USD25 for 15 days and USD40 for 30 days in Cash) and international flights.
  • Dinner and lunch in Kathmandu except for welcome and farewell dinner. 
  • Your equipment and other expenses such as mineral water, soft beverages, confectionaries, laundries, phone calls, hot drinking water, bar bills, showers, internet facility, battery chargers, multi plugs, etc. 
  • Your travel insurance that covers Helicopter evacuation as well as medical expenses and trip cancellation. 
  • Tips of a guide, porters, and driver as a token of appreciation. 
  • Monument entrance fee for a sightseeing tour in Kathmandu.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)
Meals included: Dinner

Our airport representative will welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu upon your arrival. He/she will escort you to the respective hotel in a private vehicle. Your prior trip meeting will be scheduled on the very day at the hotel before dinner. However, our airport representative will give you a brief idea about the second day’s schedule on your way to the hotel. During this meeting, we will introduce you to your leader/guide. Please do not hesitate to ask questions about your trek or anything that is related to your trip. To make you feel comfortable, we host a welcome dinner for you in a popular restaurant in the city where you can enjoy authentic Nepali meal along with cultural programs including ethnic dance and songs. Tonight will be spent at a hotel in Kathmandu. 
 

Day 02: Kathmandu: sightseeing and trek preparation
Total duration: 4-5 hours

After the breakfast, you will be visiting the different places in Kathmandu. There are many historic and cultural places that are of great significance in Kathmandu. You will get to see the major attractions of the city along with our professional guide and a private vehicle. The following are the major places that you will visit:

You will be visiting either Kathmandu Durbar Square or Patan Durbar Square, which has been listed in the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. You can enjoy the age-old cultural heritage of the city. Boudhanath and Swayambhunath a sacred pilgrimage of the Buddhist and Pashupatinath the very famous Hindu temple e are the attraction of today’s sightseeing program. After sightseeing, you will be meeting us at our office for a prior trek meeting. You can go shopping in the evening at Thamel which is famous for useful tourist’s products. We will stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 03: Drive from to Sundarijal (1 hour) and Trek to Chisapani (2300/7544)
Total duration: 4 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today is the first day of our trek. So after breakfast, we will head towards Sundarijal which will take almost an hour. Upon reaching Sundarijal we will start to walk towards Chisapani. We will walk pass a small hydroelectric plant. After some time we will enter the area of Shivapuri National Park. After clearing the formalities there we will continue to walk passing the first settlement of the area Mulkharka inhabited by the Tamangs. Crossing this village and walking on the trails that passé through Oak and Rhododendron forest we will reach Chisapani, our destination for today. We will stay overnight at Chisapani.

Day 04: Trek from Chisapani to Kutumsang (2,446m/8022ft)
Total duration: 7 hours

We will be walking towards Kutumsang today. We will first descend crossing meadows and fields. On our way, we can enjoy the breathtaking view of Langtang Himal. From here we will walk Pathi Bhanjyang and then to Gul Bhanjyang. From Gul Bhanjyang we will follow the trail that climbs up to the ridge.From here we will have to walk downhill for some time to reach Kutumsang. We will stay overnight at Kutumsang.

Day 05: Trek from Kutumsang to Thadepati (3650m/11,972ft)

Our destination for today is set for Thadepati so after breakfast, we will trace the trail that leads to Thadepati. First, we follow the trail that is steepe and takes us to the point where no settlements are seen. But this place offers an amazing view of the mountains and low land. We walk passing by the oak and rhododendron forest to reach this point. From here we continue to walk to Yurin Danda. We will witness the magnificent view of the majestic Himalayas from this point. After spending some quality time here we will walk to reach Thadepati for overnight stay.

Day 06: Trek to Tharkeghyang (2560m/8397ft)
Total duration: 6 hours

Today we will walk towards Tharkeghyang. The trail will first drop until we cross Melamchi river then we will gradually ascend passing the Sherpa settlements. En route we can witness the visually appealing Himalayas. We can also witness the beautiful monasteries of this region. Finally, we will reach Tharkeghyang AKA Helambu. This is a beautiful Sherpa Village popular for the natural beauty that it offers. This place is also famous for apples. We can explore the place in the evening. We will stay overnight at Tharkeghyang.

Day 07: Trek to Sermathang (2610m/8563ft)
Total duration: 6 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Our destination for today is set for Sermathang. We won’t be climbing to another altitude today, so it is going to be an easy walk compared to other days. Today we will walk passing through the forest, streams and breathtaking waterfalls. The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Prachin and the Sherpa village called Gangyul. After walking for some time from Gangyul we will reach Sermathang. Rest of the time can be spent exploring the village. This is a beautiful Sherpa village with many monasteries. It also offers an alluring view of the Himalayas as well as the lowlands. We will stay overnight at Sermathang.

Day 08: Trek to Melamchi Bazaar and drive to Kathmandu
Total duration: 3-4 hours walk and 2 hrs Bus Drive
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today is the last day of our trek. We will be walking to Melamchi bazaar. Melamchi bazaar is inhabited mostly by the Sherpas but we can also see people of different ethnic communities. Upon reaching Melamchi bazaar we will be taking a local couch that takes us to Kathmandu. It takes almost 3 hours to reach Kathmandu. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will be escorted to the hotel. You can freshen up and go for shopping in the evening at Thamel which is famous for useful tourist’s products. Since today is your last day in Kathmandu, we host a farewell dinner where you can give your feedback regarding the services that we provided during the trip. We will stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 09: Final departure

This is the last day of your trip with us. You can extend your trip for one or two days to visit other interesting places in and out of Kathmandu which is completely optional. If not then one of our staff will escort you to the airport as per your scheduled departure. You can roam around the city and buy souvenirs’ and do shopping to take along with you if your flight is scheduled during late hours.
