Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264 ft)

Our airport representative will welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu upon your arrival. He/she will escort you to the respective hotel in a private vehicle. Your prior trip meeting will be scheduled on the very day at the hotel before dinner. However, our airport representative will give you a brief idea about the second day’s schedule on your way to the hotel. During this meeting we will introduce you to your leader/guide. Please do not hesitate to ask questions about your trek or anything that is related to your trip. To make you feel comfortable, we host a welcome dinner for you in a popular restaurant in the city where you can enjoy authentic Nepali meal along with cultural programs including ethnic dance and songs. Tonight will be spent at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing and Trek Preparation (1,300m/4,264 ft)

After the breakfast, you will be visiting the different places in Kathmandu. There are many historic and cultural places that are of great significance in Kathmandu. You will get to see the major attractions of the city along with our professional guide and a private vehicle. The following are the major places that you will visit.

You will be visiting either Kathmandu Durbar Square or Patan Durbar Square, which has been listed in the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. You can enjoy the age-old cultural heritage of the city. Boudhanath and Swayambhunath a sacred pilgrimage of the Buddhist and Pashupatinath the very famous Hindu temple e are the attraction of today’s sightseeing program. After sightseeing, you will be meeting us at our office for a prior trek meeting. You can go for shopping in the evening at Thamel which is famous for useful tourist’s products. We will stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 03: Fly to Tumlingtar (950m/3,116ft) and camp
Total duration: 50 minutes flight
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

You will be escorted to the domestic terminal of TIA. 50 minutes of scenic flight will take us to Tumlingtar. Tumlingtar is a small village with a small airstrip along the Arun valley. From here we will hike towards the camp to join the other crew members. We will have ample of time to explore the peripheral area in the evening in case of good weather and on time flight. We will stay overnight at Tumlingtar tonight.

Day 04: Trek to Mani-Bhanjyang
Total duration: 5-6 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Our actual trek begins today from Tumlingtar walking along the farms and ascending slowly along the subtropical forest until we reach Khadbari. Khadbari is the major city of this region. From Khadbari we will head towards Mani-Bhanjyang which will take few hours. We will stay overnight at Mani Bhanjyang.

Day 05: Trek to Chichila
Total duration: 5-6 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Our destination for today is set for Chichila. We will set off early soon after breakfast. After four hours of walk, we will reach Bhotebas. There are few eating places in this area so we will have our lunch here. After lunch, we will head towards Chichila passing through beautiful farmland and dense forest. After two hours of walk we will reach Chichila. This is a village with sparse settlement and few resting places. We can get amazing view of Mt. Makalu and Mt. Kumbakarna from this village. We will stay overnight at Chichila.

Day 06: Trek to Num
Total duration: 5-6 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

We will be trekking to Num today. After breakfast, we will ascend towards Num passing through beautiful rhododendron. During peak season, this place offers and amazing prospect of the blooming rhododendron. After almost 5 hours of walk we will reach Num, a beautiful village with few settlements and a primary school. We will stay overnight at Num.

Day 07: Trek to Seduwa
Total duration: 5 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today we will first descend towards Arun River along the slippery path crossing a suspension bridge. Soon after crossing the bridge, we will ascend towards Runruma. Upon reaching Runruma we will have our lunch. After lunch, we will have to ascend on the steep trails for hours until we reach Seduwa. It is a small beautiful village. We will stay overnight at Seduwa.

Day 8: Trek to Tashi Gaun, 3-4 hrs walk
Total duration: 3-4 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

The walk today is relatively easy as we won’t be ascending to the higher altitudes or walk on the steep slippery trails. We will walk along the terraced farms and beautiful settlement to reach Tashi Gaun. It will take 3 to hours to reach this village. Evening can be spent exploring the area. We will stay overnight at Tashi Gaon.

Day 09: Trek to Kahuma Danda
Total duration: 5-6 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Our destination for today is set for Kahuma Danda. We will start our walk from Tashi Gaon passing the summer pasture and Shepherds huts. En route we will witness beautiful oak and rhododendron forest. After few hours of walk we will reach Kahuma ridge. From here we will have to ascend in steep trails to reach Kahuma Danda. This place offers an amazing panorama of the Himalayas. We will stay overnight at Kahuma Danda.

Day 10: Trek to Mumbuk
Total duration: 5-6 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Morning at Kahuma Dada treats us with the beautiful view of the rising sun. After watching the beautiful sunrise from this place we will have our breakfast and head towards Mumbuk. We will first reach Thulo Pokhari and then Sano Pokhari. During winter the trails are covered with snow and are slippery. We will have to descend for some time to reach Mumbuk. We will stay overnight at Mumbuk.

Day 11: Trek to Nehe Kharka
Total duration: 6-7 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

The destination for today is set for Nehe Kharka passing through the trails of Barun Valley. Barun Valley is the most unexploited area in the eastern Himalayan region. This place is very rich in flora and fauna. This place harbors species like red panda, musk deer, clouded leopard etc. After few hours of walk we will reach the alpine forest of the Barun Valley leaving behind the temperate vegetation. We will have to ascend gradually along the gorges of Barun River until we reach Nehe Kharka. Nehe Kharka is used by the neighboring herders of Tashi Gaun and Navagaun as summer pasture. We will stay overnight at Nehe Kharka.

Day 12: Trek to Shearson (4,600m/15,088ft)
Total duration: 6-7 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Our destination for today is set for Shearson. We will walk through the trails along the scanty lush of rhododendron, oak and juniper. We will witness lesser vegetation as we walk up crossing the wooden bridge over Arun River. After crossing the river we will walk on the trail that passes through the prayer wall of Ramara painted with Tibetan prayers. Walking further we will start to view the Barun Glacier and Mt. Makalu. After some hours of walk we will reach Shearson, from where we can see the mesmerizing view of Mt. Makalu South and Mt. Baruntse. We will stay overnight Shearson.

Day 13: Acclimatization day
Total duration: 3-4 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today is set as a rest day. We won’t be ascending further instead we will explore the peripheral area to get the closer view of Mt. Makalu, Barun Pokhari and The Everest. Better view of those peaks can be enjoyed upon hiking an hour up onto a large meadow. After exploring the place we will stay overnight at Shearson.

Day 14: Trek to Makalu Base Camp
Total duration: 5-6 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today is the actual day to see the base camp of Mt. Makalu. It takes almost five hours to reach the base camp from Shearson. We will have to start early because the weather might get adverse during the day. After spending some time at base camp we will return to Shearson for overnight stay.

Day 15: Trek to Yangri Kharka
Total duration: 6-7 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today we will be walking towards the end point of the Barun Valley named Yangri Kharka. This is a beautiful pasture with few settlements. This place is adorned with a beautiful view of different snowcapped peaks and alpine vegetation and fauna. We will be staying overnight at Yangri Kharka.

Day 16: Trek to Mumbuk, 5-6 hrs walk
Total duration: 5-6 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

We will walk towards Mumbuk leaving the Barun valley. The gradual ascend through the trail along the alpine forest will take us to Mumbuk. This is a village with few settlements. We will stay overnight at Mumbuk.

Day 17: Trek to Kahuma
Total duration: 5-6 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Our destination for today is set for Kahuma. Shortly after breakfast, we will start our walk towards Kahuma Danda passing through Ship ton –La, a 4200 meter pass. This part of the valley gets an amazing amount of snow and we often have to walk knee deep. From this place we will walk further to reach Thulo Pokhari and then to Kahuma Danda from where we can see the breathtaking view of the entire mountain range. We will stay overnight at Kahuma.

Day 18: Trek to Navagaun
Total duration: 6-7 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

We will walk to Navagaun today. After breakfast, we will start to walk towards Navagaun passing through Tashi Gaun. The trail seems pleasant as we walk through the shades through a beautiful forest. Walking further the trails will follow the well-terraced fields leading us to Navagaun. We will stay overnight at Navagaun.

Day 19: Trek to Num
Total duration: 6-7 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

The walk today is pleasant and easy. We will walk downhill through the farms for few hours enjoying the beautiful view to reach Seduwa. From Seduwa its is about 3 hours of walk to reach Num. We will stay overnight at Num.

Day 20: Trek to Chichila, 5-6 hrs walk
Total duration: 5-6 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Our destination for today is set for Chichila. We will have to walk uphill for almost three hours to reach the ridge. Upon reaching the ridge we will trace the downhill trails until we reach Chichila. We will have our lunch at Chichila and spend rest of the time exploring the peripheral areas. We will stay overnight at Chichila today.

Day 21: Trek to Khadbari
Total duration: 6-7 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today we will hike back to Khadbari. Today’s walk is going to be pleasant and relatively easier as we will walk downhill through the fine trail that passes through the farmlands. We will reach Khadbari after few hours. Khadbari is a big village with a large settlement. We will stay overnight at Khadbari.

Day 22: Trek back to Tumlingtar (950m/3,116ft)
Total duration: 3-4 hrs
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today is the last day of this trek. We will trek back to Tumlingtar from Khadbari. It is about 3 to 4 hours of walk to reach Tumlingtar from Khadbari We will have our lunch at Tumlingtar and spend rest of the time with the crew members and porters sharing the memories of the adventurous trek to Makalu base camp.

Day 23: Fly to Kathmandu
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

After your breakfast, you will be taken to the airport by our guide and your luggage will be taken care of by the porters. You will reach to Kathmandu after a 50 min of flying. You will be escorted to the respective hotel by our staff from the airport. You will have time to rest. Since today is your last day in Kathmandu, we host a farewell dinner where you can give your feedback regarding the services that we provided during the entire trip. We will stay at Kathmandu tonight.

Day 24: Departure day
Meals included: Breakfast

This is the last day of your trip with us. You can extend your trip for one or two days to visit other interesting places in and out of Kathmandu which is completely optional. If not then one of our staff will escort you to the airport as per your scheduled departure. You can roam around the city and buy souvenirs’ and do shopping to take along with you if your flight is scheduled during late hours.

We have prepared the trip departure dates in small groups departure for group fun and enjoyment trekking. Our group size start from 2 peoples (Even for solo travelers, we organize single trip on supplement cost of US$- 200 additional) and maximum group size will be 8-10 travelers. But in general, our every date will have small groups of 4- 6 peoples, which is good group size for safe and flexible & comfortable trekking.
