Everest region is not only popular for trekking but it also offers numerous opportunities for the fit trekkers to conquer the peak itself. Many peaks in this region are open to climbing including Island Peak. Climbing of Island peak could be a marvelous experience to a trekker who is physically fit and an enthusiast. You don’t require being a professional climber as this peak can be climbed with less or no experience at all.

Every year numerous climbers climb the Island Peak which is considered among the tallest Peak in Nepal. Besides, you will be also exploring the Everest base camp and Kalapatthar in this 19 days package for the closer view of Mt. Everest and other surrounding Peaks. Our itinerary is designed in such a way that it gives you ample time to acclimatize at suitable intervals. Our well-experienced guides will accompany you throughout the trekking and climbing.

The trails of Everest Base Camp and Island Peak base camp trek run through the Khumbu region where you can experience an ultimate trekking adventure of the Himalayas. Spring Season (March to May) and autumn season (October to December) are considered to be the best season for this trek. We ensure you a guaranteed departure on your chosen date. However, at times due to adverse weather conditions, the flight might be delayed or canceled for a day affecting the schedule. We always recommend you to add one night (three nights to the most) in Kathmandu after your trek if possible.We can arrange helicopters as per needed in case of flight cancellation as per your need and request. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, our airport representative will receive and transfer you to the respective hotel in a private vehicle comfortably. Your prior trip meeting will be scheduled on the very day at the hotel before dinner. However, our airport representative will give you a brief idea about the second day’s schedule on your way to the hotel. During the meeting, we will introduce you to your leader/guide. You will have to clear the payment if any. Please do not hesitate to ask questions about your trek or anything that is related to your trip. To make you feel comfortable, we host a welcome dinner for you in a popular restaurant in the city where you can enjoy authentic Nepali meal along with cultural programs including ethnic dance and songs. You will be spending this night at the hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu Valley sightseeing and trek preparation (1,300m/4,264ft)

After the breakfast, you will be visiting the different places in Kathmandu. There are many historic and cultural places that are of great significance in Kathmandu. You will get to see the major attractions of the city along with our professional guide and a private vehicle. The following are the major places that you will visit:

You will be visiting either Kathmandu Durbar Square or Patan Durbar Square, which has been listed in the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site.You can enjoy the age-old cultural heritage of the city. Boudhanath and Swayambhunath a sacred pilgrimage of the Buddhist and Pashupatinath the very famous Hindu temple are the attraction of today’s sightseeing program. After sightseeing, you will be meeting us at our office for a prior trek meeting. You can go shopping in the evening at Thamel which is famous for useful tourist’s products. We will stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 03: Kathmandu-Lukla-Phakding (2,652m/8,700ft) (30-35 minute flight)

We will drive you to the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan Airport in the morning to board the flight to Lukla. After 30-35 minutes of flight, you will land to Tenzing- Hillary Airport, Lukla from where your destination begins. In a clear weather condition, you can enjoy the majestic panorama of different mountains on your way to Lukla from Kathmandu. You will be briefed by our guide regarding the trekking to Phakding. You will have the breakfast here along with other trekkers and will get some extra time to drool around the village and get acclimatize while the porters sort out and load the trekking equipment. A walk of four hours will help you reach Phakding. On your way, you will see the herd of yaks, Black Mani walls engraved with prayers in white, beautiful monasteries breathe taking the view of Lukla village. There are many resting places and tea houses in Phakding and you will be staying in one of these lodges tonight.

Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,283ft)

Our journey will begin today shortly after the breakfast along the forested trail of Dudhkoshi river. This uphill trail crosses the suspension bridge with prayer flags and will lead us to Monjo, the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park. you can find an ample number of teahouses, and resting places for refreshment. After clearing the entrance formalities to enter the National Park, the steep stony trail downward will lead to another amazing suspension bridge across the Dudhkoshi River. An hour of uphill walk through the pine forest from here will lead us to Namche Bazaar-Gateway to Mt. Everest. We will find many good restaurants, hotels, tea houses lodges shops, money exchange, bakeries and teahouses as Namche is the biggest village along the whole Everest trail. Major attractions of this day are a view of Mt. Kusum, Lhotse, Nuptse and the first Glimpse of Mt. Everest. You will stay in a guesthouse tonight.

Day 05: Namche Bazaar- a day for acclimatization

The entire day will be spent in Namche for us to adjust to the air and the environment. Namche is an important acclimatizing spot.It is always wise to be active instead of sitting ideal during the day. We will be going for a short trek to Thame, an old Sherpa village to celebrate and watch Sherpa Tradition or we can visit the peripheral villages offering a lot more to see and cherish. We will have time to visit the National Parks headquarter, monasteries or the museum. We can get glimpses of the beautiful panorama of different peaks Thamserku, Kusum Kangru, Kantega, Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam among others from the site. This night will also be spent in a lodge in Namche Bazaar.

Day 06: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,867m/12,684ft)
Total duration: 5 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

After breakfast, the trek for today will start.  Today we will follow the trails long the glacial water of Dudhkoshi up till the altitude of 3867m. We can enjoy the phenomenal view of the Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam during this walk. Enthralling Thamserku exists in a close vicinity of the trail along with the lush of the temperate vegetation including Rhododendron, Oak, Juniper etc. You can also get a glance of wild fauna like Himalayan Thar, musk deer, snow leopard and different varieties of birds of this region. After reaching Tengboche; we will see the famous Tengboche Monastery decorated with beautiful Sherpa art and beautiful wall hanging. You will spend this night in Tengboche.

Day 07: Trek from Tengboche to Pheriche (4,358m/14,295ft)
Total duration: 4-5 hours

The destination for today has been set for Pheriche. The morning time can be spent by exploring the Tengboche Monastery and the surrounding and taking pictures areas with the beautiful vista of the surrounding Himalayas. To begin the trek, we will first descend following the trail that passes through the forest. After crossing the river, ascend begins and it gets steeper as we climb higher. The land from here starts to get dry. After few hours of walk, we will reach a traditional Sherpa village, Pangboche. Walking further will take us to Pheriche; a beautiful Sherpa village. Pheriche is located on the side of the river. This village has got a helipad for emergency rescue. This night will be spent at Pheriche.

Day 08: Trek from Pheriche to Lobuche (4,930m/16,170 ft)
Total duration: 5-6 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today after breakfast, we will be taking a short walk to Dugla. From here the trail is steep until we reach the terminal moraine of Khumbu Glacier. We will then walk towards Chupki Lara passing walking on the stony trail passing the prayer flags used as memorials for those who perished on the mission to climb the Everest. The trek continues further along the Khumbu Glacier. We will see the breathtaking vista of Khumbutse, Lhotse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal on the way to Lobuche. This night will be spent at Lobuche.

Day 09: Trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep-Everest Base Camp- Gorekshep (5,320/17,450EBC) / (5,160m/16,929) Gorekshep

Today, the trek is going to be a bit difficult one as we will be trekking along the Khumbu Glacier to reach the Everest Base Camp. We will first trek to Gorak Shep and after having lunch there the uphill climb for Everest base camp begins. From this point, we can see Mt. Everest at close proximity without any mountaineering equipment. After walking through the rocky trail we will reach the Everest Base Camp (5,357m/17,575ft). You can see the splendid view of Khumbu valley from this point. We will return to Gorak Shep for dinner and overnight stay

Day 10: Hike to Kala Pattar-Pheriche (5,550m/18,204ft Kala Pattar)/and back to Lobuche (4,930m/16,170 ft)
Total duration: 7-8 hours

We will have to start our trek early today because this is the most tedious day of the entire trip. So we will start the journey by climbing up to reach Kala Patthar (Black Rock at 5,545m/18,192ft.), that offers the best views of Mt. Everest. This is a very challenging ascent yet a very rewarding one as we will get the enthralling view of the Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori and Ama Dablam. We will spend some time here taking photographs before descending down to Gorak Shep and then trek down to Lobuche. We will stay at Lobuche tonight.

Day 11: Trek from Lobuche (4,930m/16,170 ft) to Kongma La (5,535/18,159ft) to Chhukung (4,730m/15,518ft)
Total duration: 6-7 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

The destination for today is set for Chhukung via Kongma La pass. So shortly after breakfast, we will head towards Kongma La walking along the Khumbu Glacier. Today is going to be the tough and tiring day. We will witness an amazing view of the peaks upon reaching Kongma La. From here we will descend to Imja Khola valley. We continue to descend until we reach Chhukung. Chhukung is a small settlement where we will be staying overnight.

Day 12: Trek from Chhukung to Island Peak Base Camp (5,200m/17,060ft)
Total duration: 3-4 hours

We will be heading to Island Peak base camp. The trail for today is reasonable and easier compared to the previous day’s trails. It will take not more than 4 hours to reach the base camp. We will have to climb the southern part and then to the east to reach the main line of the valley. From here the paths are windy along the Lothse Glacier but the trail gets easier as we continue to walk along the streamside. We will walk on the crisscross route through the Imja and Lhotse glacier to reach the Island base camp. This is a wide valley situated on the south-west side of the Island Peak. We will stay overnight at the base camp.

Day 13: Pre-camp training on Island Peak base camp

Today is set aside for practicing the peak climbing. We will be provided some kind of training by our guides to climb peak before actual climbing. We will be trained regarding the climbing techniques and they will also make us acquainted with the climbing gears such as ice axe, climbing boots, harness, ascender, crampons etc. They will also teach us how to use the rope to go up and down. This sort of training will help us to be confident and reduce the risk of being injured which in turn helps to fully enjoy the climbing experience. During the day we can explore the base camp and high camp area. We will stay overnight at the base camp.

Day 14: Island Peak base camp to Island peak Summit (6,189m/20,305ft) and to base camp.
Total duration: 10-12 hours

Today is the day. We will actually climb the peak. This day is going to be full of thrill and adventure. We will have to start very early as the climbing should be wrapped before noon. Afternoons are very windy and may hinder the climbing. We will take the trails that move up beyond the base camp for few hundred meters. From here we will have to climb the steep hill. The path is sandy in the beginning and it becomes grassy before becoming boulder strewn. Moving further the narrow trail we will enter the steep rock channel. We will have to climb the rock gully through the rock steps. We will cross towards the right side of the gully to follow the trail that goes through the ridgeline. Walking through the ridge we will reach the exposed traverse on to the muzzle of the summit glacier. Our guide will fix the rope to go to the other side to climb to the steep slope which leads us to the summit ridge. We will use the fixed rope and man rope for the purpose of safety. We use fixed rope after successfully climbing on rock. The length of the rope will usually be 350 m. However, the length depends on the time of the season and the crevasses. There are two newly formed crevasses which are approximately 3 and 4 meters long. Ladders will be used to cross the crevasses. Upon reaching the top we can spend the time taking pictures and watching the view. Spending some time there we will descend towards the base camp following the same route where the other crew members will join us. The evening can be spent by enjoying celebrating the success with the guides and other crew members. We will stay overnight at Island Peak base camp.

Day 15: Island Peak base camp to Pangboche (3,985m/13,074 ft)
Total duration: 5-6 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

We will descend to Pangboche. It will be easier as we will walk down to the lower altitude retracing the same route. On our way back we will pass the beautiful Sherpa villages, the forests, and Gompas. We will reach Pangboche in almost 5 hours. Pangboche is a beautiful village from where one can get the amazing view of Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kangtaiga and the Kondge range.  Imja River flows through the fertile valley. We will stay overnight at Pangboche.

Day 16: Pangboche to Namche Bazaar (3,400m/11,283ft)
Total duration: 4-5 hours

Today we will walk down to Tengboche passing through Imja Khola. We will continue to walk through the dense rhododendron and juniper forest .after crossing the suspension bridge over the Dudhkoshi river, we will take the trail that follows the gorges of Dudhkoshi River that’s descend through the pine forest before reaching Sansa. We might witness much different Himalayan fauna on our way to the destination like pheasant, mountain goats, and musk deer. After walking for sometimes we will reach Namche Bazar. We will stay overnight at Namche Bazar.

Day 17: Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,652m/8,700ft)
Total duration: 7-8 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today is the final day of this trek, so shortly after the breakfast, we will head towards Lukla from where our trek began. The trail drops down to Dudhkoshi and then we reach Monjo. We will have our lunch at Phakding and then continue to trek till we reach Lukla. You can spend your time with the team members roaming around the market or can have some quality time with yourself enjoying the achievement that you made during past few days. You will spend this night at Lukla.

Day 18: Fly back to Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)
Meals included: Breakfast/Dinner

Flight to and from Lukla are normally during the early hours as the weather might go unpredictably adverse during the later hours. After your breakfast, you will be taken to the airport by our guide and your luggage will be taken care of by the porters and local Sherpas. You will reach to Kathmandu after a 30 min of flying. You will be escorted to the respective hotel by our staff from the airport. You will have time to rest. Since today is your last day in Kathmandu, we host a farewell dinner where you can give your feedback regarding the services that we provided during the entire trip. We will stay at Kathmandu tonight.

Day 19: Final Departure

This is the last day of your trip with us. You can extend your trip for one or two days to visit other interesting places in and out of Kathmandu which is completely optional. If not then one of our staff will escort you to the airport as per your scheduled departure. You can roam around the city and buy souvenirs’ and do shopping to take along with you if your flight is scheduled during late hours.

We have prepared the trip departure dates in small groups departure for group fun and enjoyment trekking. Our group size start from 2 peoples (Even for solo travelers, we organize single trip on supplement cost of US$- 200 additional) and maximum group size will be 8-10 travelers. But in general, our every date will have small groups of 4- 6 peoples, which is good group size for safe and flexible & comfortable trekking.
